Only He Knows by Hiranya Borah

My rating: 2/5 stars

I’ve had such mixed feelings about Hiranya Borah’s stories and Only He Knows is no different. It’s about a married couple that seem perfect but not everything is as it seems. Himangshu cheated on his wife Seema for years, even when she’s dying of cancer. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Seema wronged her husband first.

“What do you see when you look into my eyes?” I asked breathlessly and not entirely sure where the question had come from.

“All there is to know,” was his reply. “What do you see when you look into my eyes, Brooke?” he whispered, there was a slight anger to his voice.

I trembled. “An abyss and danger,” was all I could say.

Book Review: Chained by Elise Marion

51trbu9hbll-_uy250_As acting high lord of the house of Toustain, it’s Lady Gwendolyn’s job to manage affairs of Dinasdale, and that includes managing her new unruly prisoner, Caden Maignart. Unfortunately it looks like the only way she’ll be able to manage him is to have him chained up in her bedchamber.

After thirty years of peace, tensions are mounting between Daleria and Dinasdale again. After receiving reports of Dalerians massacring a Dinasdale village and Gwen’s brothers vanishing after being attacked, Gwen won’t take any chances with the Dalerian intruders found on Dinasdalian land. But she quickly realizes just throwing them into the dungeon won’t work, not when one of them is willing to stir up as much trouble as he possibly can to be freed. Chaining him up in her bedchamber keeps him secure, but it causes a whole new set of problems. Like how she can’t hide her thoughts and feelings from him. Not to mention the growing attraction she feels towards him, despite him being the enemy and her being engaged to another.

Mine for Tonight: Book One In the Billionaire’s Obsession

Nothing says sexy like a brooding billionaire. I mean, in a world of car payments, nine-to-five nightmares, and student loans hanging over people’s heads like spiders on their bedroom ceilings, it can be a lot of fun to daydream about a billionaire lover who will take it all away. Unfortunately, a lot of them are really bad, like Fifty Shades of Writing So Bad I Want All The Characters to Spontaneously Combust. The damsel in distress routine can also be sadly lacking plot and character development, like in The Doctor’s Slave. However, Mine for Tonight is definitely one of the good ones.

Historical Romance Novel Book Review: The Robber Knight

When you are fighting for the freedom of your people, falling in love with your enemy is not a great idea. Or is it? Ayla has to defend her castle and her people all on her own, with nobody to help her but a dark warrior she hates with all her heart.

Sir Reuben, the dreaded robber knight, has long been Ayla’s deadliest enemy. He has prayed on her and her people ever since her father fell ill, and she swore he would hang for his crimes. Now they are both trapped in her castle as the army of a far greater enemy approaches, and they have only one chance: stand together, or fall.

This book wasn’t bad, honestly. I’m a huge fan of historical fiction, and it had been awhile since I’ve read a medieval love story, so that was a nice change of pace.

Lovers at Heart by Melissa Foster

LoversAtHeart.jpg  Treat Braden wasn’t affected by anyone or anything until Max Armstrong, the cool, efficient event planner he had first met and quickly offended. Now, six months later, she still wasn’t out of his mind, and he would do anything to get into his good graces. But Max won’t have anything to do with him. Wary of men as it is after being severely hurt by her last serious boyfriend, the slight from Treat might keep her from ever getting close to him, no matter how much they both want it.

This is the first Melissa Foster book I’ve read, even though she’s been highly recommended to me by many readers, and she has not disappointed. I thought it was a really cute love story. I liked how Max was a strong character but at the same time she was innocent and someone Treat needed to protect. The twist with her ex-boyfriend was unexpected, but I definitely liked that, because it showed that even the villains in the story were not two-dimensional. And even though this wasn’t a PG story, it didn’t rely on sex scenes to make it worth reading, like a lot of romances (even those not listed in erotica) do. It’s definitely a love story worth reading about, and I can’t wait to read the next story in The Bradens series.
