Here are highlights of the bookish news I’ve been reading lately.
Author Willy Vlautin talks about how he joins together his music and writing career as he prepares for the Tuscan Festival of Books.
Y.A. novelist A.S. King talks about her quirky writing process and how her love of writing started in high school.
Professor Esther Allen discusses American Dirt, Ramona, and the harmful effects of writing about someone else’s culture, even with good intentions.
The Washington Post published a piece about why parents should not censor their children’s books, even when it contains sex and violence. As someone who is firmly against censoring, and as someone who always figured out a way to read what I wanted, I completely agree with this article.
And for those who want to know more about the super-secret process behind every super mysterious book blogger, Sammie from The Writerly Way talks about A Day in the Life of a Book Blogger, which is an article I really relate to.

Thank you so much for sharing my post!
I love some of the things you’ve shared here. It’s a good group. As a parent, I’m totally guilty about censoring content based on what I think my child is emotionally ready for and can comprehend … but once she’s old enough to “get” anything she reads? I’m all for her choosing anything she wants. The sky’s the limit.
I’m also totally interested in the discussion around American Dirt, and I’ve bookmarked that article. I’m so curious to read it later, when I get a chance. :3
You’re welcome! The article about American Dirt was really interesting. I understand wanting to censor content, and since I’m not a parent, I can’t really say what’s absolutely wrong or not. I just know I always found books I wanted to read whether or not my parents wanted me to read them and I’m not a fan of censoring books in general.
