Today’s interview is with Carrie Weston, a fantasy crime fiction writer living in the UK.
LQ: Tell me a little about yourself.
CW: My names Carrie Weston and I write Crime Fiction full of fantastical creatures, melding the realms of spirits and fae within my world. I am a debut novelist in my early 30s with a great son and crazy springer spaniel. I live in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside in the UK and love nothing more than a steaming cup of coffee and indulgent chocolate sweet or two when I sit down to write. I love hearing from my readers, so don’t forget to ask your questions. I answer them as soon as I can. ☺
LQ: What does your writing process look like?
CW: My writing process is very varied due to health conditions that impact on it. But I absolutely love writing and try to get some words in every other day from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand. I’m a bit of a punster so I like to just go with the flow and let my characters lead me by immersing myself in their world and personalities. This makes it easier when writing from multiple points of view.
LQ: What was your favourite book to write so far?
CM: Xander Chase and the Unicorn Code is my debut novel and as such it has a special place in my heart especially as it was originally written for my son.
LQ: Who is your favourite character to write about?
CW: Xander. He starts off so arrogant and superior and as he goes through the book events and other characters impact his life and change his views and opinions on things he once felt superior to. I suppose you could call him the character that learns the most through my book and for an angel that’s saying a lot. ☺
LQ: Who are your favourite authors? Have any of them influenced your work?
CW: I am an avid reader and have been all my life. Growing up with JK Rowling’s tales of magic and wonder, experiencing time travel in books with PC Cast as well as fantastical creatures. The fun of reading about fae and dragon shifters with Julia Kagawa and the ever wonderful, sensual worlds of Larissa Ione and Gena Showalter. Not to mention the amazing world-building and urban fantasy of Patricia Briggs.
LQ: How are you doing during the current pandemic?
CW: Scared like everyone else, but using my time to write regular upbeat blogs on my website including word games, character interviews, blog, and more. Whilst also roughing out my third book and trying to stay strong.
I am also very proud to announce my involvement in Authors Adopt 2020 (providing some medical staff with copies of my book along with other authors worldwide) – to say a big thank you.
LQ: What are you currently working on?
CW: At this very moment book, 2 in the Xander Chase series is being looked over by my publishers, whilst I’m attempting a rough version of book 3.
LQ: Anything else you would like to share?
CW: Lastly a big thank you to all of you who are taking an interest in reading this and to Kara for this lovely opportunity.
Hearts and Kisses ☺
