Brandy Nacole is a lover of folklore and mystery living in Arkansas.
LQ: What does your writing process look like?
BN: When beginning a new project, I like to handwrite it all out to start. These thoughts are going to change over the course of writing the book, but I like having it on paper to refer to and having a solid plan in front of me. After that, it’s a lot of coffee, lot of wine, and a lot of late nights.
LQ: What was your favorite book to write so far?
BN: Deep in the Hollow. I’ve loved all my books but Deep in the Hollow holds a special place in my heart as it is based off a local legend in my hometown. Most of the action scenes or flashbacks in the book are stories I received from locals in interviews. It was a lot of fun to research and write.
LQ: Who is your favorite character to write about?
BN: I’ve enjoyed a lot of my characters but Racquel from the Shadow World Trilogy holds a soft spot in my heart. Her story was about finding herself while going on this grand adventure. It reflects a lot with my own struggles as a teenager but with a bit of fantasy element, I didn’t get the fortune to have.
LQ: Who are your favorite authors? Have any of them influenced your work?
BN: Richelle Mead, Karen McManus, Casey Bond, Shea Ernshaw, J.R. Ward, and so many more have inspired my work. I read their books, absorbing word phrases and details. The more I read their work, the better I feel myself as a writer. It’s inspiring.
LQ: How are you doing during the current pandemic?
Well, not having a four o’clock happy hour when I go back to work is going to be a hard adjustment. Haha. It’s been a lot to juggle, not only for my house but for everyone across the world. I know it’s not much but I’ve just been trying to do my best and encouraging others to do the same. It’s all we can do.
LQ: What are you currently working on?
BN: I am working on two projects. A supernatural fantasy called Secrets in the Plains. It is the fourth book in my Chindi Novel Series. I’m also working on a psychological thriller about 3 sisters, one being a serial killer. Question is, which one? I like bouncing around between Fantasy and Mystery genres. It’s even more fun when I can combine the two!
LQ: Anything else you would like to share?
BN: Thanks for having me. I’d like to say to the world right now, it’s a scary time but know you are doing your best. Be considerate of your mental health and be kind to yourself. When feeling overwhelmed go for a walk, meditate, call a friend or family member, or do something you’re passionate about. Books and words are always here for us and so are so many people. I’m always here to offer a word of encouragement: brandy@brandynacole.com.
