After a year of insanity and isolation, a post-pandemic future is slowly creeping closer but there are still many months of isolation ahead. This leaves a lot of people seeking online communities for comfort to help cope with the pandemic. One of the best ones to join is the book blogging community, full of avid readers ready to recommend their favorite books and gush about their current reads. Not only does connecting to book bloggers (and reading their recommended reads) give comfort through uncertain times, but connecting with small creators and engaging with their content will make their day. Here are some of the best book bloggers to follow in 2021.
Asha from A Cat, A Book, and a Cup of Tea
Like so many readers, Asha has an overflowing TBR list that she loves documenting through her blog, A Cat, A Book, and a Cup of Tea. She is a huge fan of fantasy for all ages, LGBTQ+ romance, and Regency romance. Like me, she objects to labels like “clean” to describe chaste romance novels.
Despite her overflowing TBR, she is an avid reader. She read 350 books in 2020, but managed to single out her 21 favorite reads of the year.
Allie from Allieereads:
I love reading Allie’s blog. Her posts always feel cheerful, even when reviewing a grim book her brother chose for her.
She reads anything she finds interesting, so there’s a great variety of reviews on her blog. She loves connecting with other readers and encourages everyone to drop her a line if they want to fangirl over books with her.
Evelina from Avalinah’s Books:
Not only is Evelina a book blogger, but she’s also a digital marketer. In addition to reading and reviewing books, she loves helping newbie book bloggers by giving them advice and tips and tricks for growing their blogs, just like in this article helping book bloggers get approved more often for review copies.
She loves reading fantasy and sci-fi books as well as middle grade and literary novels. She also enjoys reading and reviewing nonfiction books on topics like equality, disability, and fair treatment of individuals. As an MLHT accessibility affiliate, she strives to make her blog accessible for all, including people with low vision or blindness.
Zainab from Em’s Bookish Musings:
Like many book bloggers, Zainab is a nursing student who loves baking, anime, and, of course, books. She also is a black queer muslim living in Nigeria. Because of her background, Zainab is able to give a different perspective on the books she reads than most book bloggers who more likely to come up in a quick Google search. She loves promoting diverse books and posts about YA, romance, fantasy, and even the occasional horror book.
Zainab also starts discussions the book community desperately needs to have, including calling out white book bloggers on faux pas made when reading diverse books, posting about the black experience, and also talking about mental health. Recently, she wrote about the true cost of book blogging for international book bloggers, talking about the time, energy, and money that goes into running a “labor of love” book blog.
