Book Blogger Confessions Tag

Posted on February 8, 2021February 8, 2021

It’s been a crazy few weeks, which is why I’ve been too silent here and on social media. Between school and my job as a romance novel ghostwriter, I’ve been struggling to get a hold on all of my projects. So this week, I thought I’d relax with a book blog tag.

I found this tag on The Book Nut but I think it was created by the defunct Laura’s Book Reviews. (Please correct me if I’m wrong).

Without further ado, here are the questions:

1. Which book, most recently, did you not finish?

Most recently, I didn’t finish The Portable Beat Reader. I still plan to finish it, but I have to be in a certain mood for beat writing. But right now I’m wrapped up in Secrets and Lies by Selena Montgomery.

2. Which book is your guilty pleasure?

I specialize in guilty pleasures, haha. I haven’t felt guilty about reading romance novels since I got caught hiding them under my pillow in middle school.

My guilty reading is actually fanfiction binges. Despite having a ridiculously long TBR, sometimes I spend hours reading Mandalorian, Harry Potter, and Harley Quinn fanfiction, to name a few. I even delved into Stardew Valley fanfiction for a few weeks (and wrote over 60 pages of my own).

3. Which book do you love to hate?

Curve Couture by H.M. Irwing is definitely the book I love to hate. Gotta love to hate fat shaming, slut shaming, insta love, abusive relationships and “I’m not like other girls” overtones.

I filmed an entire book rant on the book. Any “romance” featuring a love interest threatening to rape his girlfriend because she dared to smile at another guy deserves a good rant.

4. Which book would you throw into the sea?

I’m not sure if I would throw any book into the sea. Don’t get me wrong, I truly hate a lot of books, but damaging a book is too painful, even if it’s a bad book.

5. Which book have you read the most?

I reread books a lot more in childhood than I do now. So it’s probably a tie between A Little Princess by Francis Hodgson Burnett and Lunch Money by Andrew Clements. I loved Sara Crew’s imagination in A Little Princess and how she was able to make the best out of a bad situation. And even at a young age, I loved both creativity and entrepreneurship and Lunch Money combined both in a wish fulfillment tale that spoke to my soul.

6. Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

I don’t think I’d hate to receive any book as a present, even if it was one I already owned, or one I didn’t like. But I would be really confused if anyone got me a Kindle considering I rant about my dislike of Amazon to anyone who listens.

7.  Which book could you not live without?

This is a hard question for me. While I like a lot of books, I don’t think there’s one book I couldn’t live without. A few years ago, my rat-infested childhood home was foreclosed on and I lost over 500 books in the process. As a result, I see myself living without certain books all too well.

However, I couldn’t live without books in general. Books have helped me through some of the most stressful times of my life and a home without books would just be purgatory to me.

8. Which book made you the angriest?

Nerd Plays Naughty made me so angry. I love nerdy love interests and was really looking forward to this story. But the protagonist had ridiculously outdated views about nerds.

But if you’re looking for a book about a full-grown woman discovering her classically handsome coworker built like fucking Superman isn’t automatically a submissive virgin who knows nothing about women or sports just because he likes comic books, then this is the story for you.

9. Which book made you cry the most?

I do my best to avoid books that make me cry. Because I use books mainly as a coping mechanism for stress, I generally prefer happier stories. But Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell made me sob hard on public transportation. I knew nothing going into it, and I probably wouldn’t have finished it if I wasn’t doing a reading vlog about it.

10. Which book cover do you hate the most?

I’ve seen some very bad book covers, but Curve Couture makes me the angriest. The protagonist is a plus-sized model and her weight plays a huge part into her character and the plot, so I don’t know who that skinny woman is on the cover.
